Project Star Seed: Nyom Spooder
Five Million Years into the future of my Seed World, the native arachnids have undergone significant changes. the same goes for their environment. The waters surrounding the continent of Anu have become overgrown with plants derived from aquatic mosses and now make for a rich environment for a new host of arachnids.
The Nyom Spooder is the most abundant aquatic spider on Planet Ki. Descended from the tiny Paddle Spooder, this species has adapted to life in saltwater and for the past several thousand years has been slowly working its way through the overabundant plantlife that dominates the coastal waters.
This spider has evolved to be a fast and effective swimmer. The middle two pairs of its legs have become paddles that aid in maintaining stability while the hind two legs have grown in size and propel the spider through the water. Meanwhile, its forelimbs remain small and serve to direct food towards the chelicerae. Their small size minimizes drag and allows the Nyom Spooder to maintain high velocity when swimming.
The name Nyom Spooder refers to the spider's high swimming speed. They, de facto, go "NYOM!" through the water.
While they are the most prolific aquatic spiders in the coastal waters of Anu, they are not the only ones. In due time, more aquatic spiders will be revealed.
