I am once again back from the dead, howdy.
in case I didn’t mention it (I don’t remember whether I have or haven’t), I am in university now!! (HELP ME). This poster is part of my project for my Russian Literature class about Fantasy and Sci-fi from the times of Pushkin to Post-Soviet literature. I wanted to try my hand at Socialist realism and agitprop while incorporating my own style and it certainly isn’t perfect agitprop, but I’m really happy about how it turned out. I based my poster off of the two novels, “МЫ” by Yevgeny Zamyatin (aka 1984 before it was cool) and “Omon Ra” by Victor Pelevin. A lot of the aesthetics are based on the Soviet space program and a song I ended up holding close to my heart, “Трава у дома” by Zemlyane. It was very rewarding to push myself into a new direction with my art and I learned a lot about Russian history, art, culture and literature through this class. It was also a great opportunity to pay tribute to the cosmonauts, who’s stories have really left a mark on me and without them, we wouldn’t be as far into space as we are today. And I have a really awesome professor from Moscow, shout-out to her;)
I’d like to also preface that I do not condone or support the USSR and in no way shape or form is this project an attempt to romanticize it. I also do not support the government of Russia and Putin, this is not a safe space for Z-bags, thank you.
# there are some Easter eggs hidden in this poster, both related to the novels, Soviet history, space, etc. Lemme know if you see ‘em (˵ •̀ ᴗ •́ ˵ )
