The empty spot in my heart
I did this to illustrate my feelings currently.
On Easter Sunday early morning (12:30AM to be exact) my beloved green cheeked conure, Peepers suddenly died from choking on a tiny piece of plastic he managed to break off a small bird toy. I tried to extract the plastic but it was wedged too far down. He literally died in my hands. Read the details here https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10835624
I live alone, nobody visits outside an occasional friend stopping by every few weeks. Peepers was my sanity switch, my mental safety check on a daily basis. We did everything within the place together, eat, watch TV, listen to the radio. He was freely allowed to fly about when I had his cage door open. He had a special perch that sits next to his cage to watch the outside birds at the feeder outside. He frequently would call out to the outside birds. He would also cheep out a greeting to my neighbors coming home as well. Every time I would come home from work, Peepers would cheerfully call out "Daddies home!" repeatedly.
His death has seriously shattered me emotionally and mentally. My best friend is no longer around to cheer me up and be part of my life. Prime example was on Monday, I literally spent Easter Sunday just staring at his empty cage and places he'd sit, I was unable to sleep having been up literally since 7AM Saturday morning, I eventually fell asleep around 2-3 AM on Monday. At 9:10AM Monday morning I was woken up by a Sheriff deputy pounding on my bedroom window, turns out he was doing a welfare check. Seems I was so exhausted, I failed to hear my phone ringing 4 times a half hour earlier and my phone sounds off as a Klaxon alarm (Mainly to distinguish it from everybody elses phone), and failed to respond to my upstairs neighbor's wife pounding on my door, and later the deputy. My neighbor across the hall was trying to get ahold of me to have me pick him up in Kenosha Wisconsin and willing to pay me $100 to do it. He heard what had happened and like the neighbor upstairs, feared the worst. Thus the police involvement. Sadly he found someone else to fetch him since it was almost an hour after he tried calling me. Thats $100 I seriously could have used too.
My sister and a couple friends here on FA are urging me to pick up another replacement Conure sooner than later, mainly to get me back on my mental stability and welfare. Madison has a monthly 'Bird fair' where breeders sell a huge variety of birds , cages, bird food thats higher quality than store bought. I usually every 3 months will buy millet seed cause I can buy 2 pounds for $5.00 over $1.00 per sprig at the pet shops.
And this coming Sunday, the 7th theres another bird fair. If you wish to help me obtain another feather friend into my life, I won't object if anybody wants to toss a few bucks towards another Conure. I certainly will be extremely grateful if you are willing to help out with anything. My paypal is elkabong53708(at)gmail.com and Thank you in advance if you decide to help. You don't have to help financially if you can't or willing. I understand.

Believe me, I understand your pain, it's been a year now since Charlotte my calico cat died.
I woke up in the morning, found her in a corner of the bedroom dead.
I have a successor to her I got about a year ago now, Kira.
You did post to me after I posted her picture here.
It's appreciated.
But it's always so hard when a cherished pet dies.
Always.

I'm going to help a little, but of course have to wait until payday this Friday. Everything comes out at the beginning of the month, but I can guarantee something for you. Whether you use if for gas, the ticket to get in, or perhaps a new little buddy, you're gonna get something from me this Friday.
I'm sorry to hear this Jim, I know how tough it is to lose a beloved pet.
My family lost our greyhound, Shasta, back in early January, just a few days after the new year. She was a retired racing dog, and we had her for nine years. She was very special to us, and losing her cut deep.
I hope you can begin to heal from this loss soon.

Psittace, dux volucrum, domini facunda voluptas,
Humanae sollers imitator, psittace, linguae!
Quis tua tam subito praeclusit murmura fato?
Hesternas, miserande, dapes moriturus inisti
Nobiscum, et gratae carpentem munera mensae,
Errantemque toris, mediae plus tempore noctis
Vidimus. Affatus etiam meditataque verba
Reddideras; at nunc aeterna silentia Lethes
Ille canorus habes. Cedat Phaethontia vulgi
Fabula: non soli celebrant sua funera cygni.
A, tibi quanta domus, rutila testudine fulgens;
Connexusque ebori, virgarum argenteus ordo!
Argutumque tuo stridenti limina cornu;
Heu, querulas iam sponte fores! Vacat ille beatus
Carcer, et augusti nusquam convivia tecti.
Huc doctae stipentur aves, quis nobile fandi
Ius naturae dedit: plangat Phoebeius ales;
Auditusque memor, penitus demittere voces
Sterns, et Aonio versae certamine picae;
Quique refert iungens iterata vocabula perdix,
Et quae Bistonio queritur soror orba cubilis.
Ferte simul gemitus, cognataque duct flammis
Funera, et hoc cunctae miserande addolcite carmen:
'Occidit aeriae celeberrima gloria gentis;
Psitttacus, ille plagae viridis regnator Eoae,
Queen non gemmata volucris Junonia cauda
Vincent aspectu, gelidi non Phasidis ales,
Nec quas humenti Numidae rapuere sub Austro.
Ille salutator regum, nomenque lucutus
Caesareae, et quondam vice functus amici,
Nunc conviva levis, monstrataque reddere verba
Tam facilis; quo tu, Melior, delicte rculuso
Nunquam solus eras. At non inglorius umbris
Mittitur; Assyrio cineres adolentur amomo,
Et tenues Arabum respirant gramine plumae
Sicaniisque crocis; senior nec fessus inerti
Scandet odoratos Phoenix felicior ignis.

- Statius, 'Epicede on the death of Atedius Melior's parrot'
(NOTE: in the Latin, line 27 should start with 'Quem', not 'Queen": curse you, auto-correct! 7X=E)
Englished thus:
Parrot, foremost of the winged throng,
Your master's joy, skilled mimic of our tongue!
What stilled your murm'ring with so sudden fate?
Last night, tho' doomed, you dined with us 'til late.
We saw you roam, poor bird, from guest to guest,
And share the favors of the honored feast.
Addressed, you answered phrases learnt by rote;
Now Lethe's night and silence hold your throat
Forever mute.The common fable's wrong:
Not only Swans foretell their deaths in song.
Ah, how your house with ruddy tortoise gleamed;
Fenced round with silver bars, with ivory beamed!
Shrill squealed the gates you opened with your beak;
Alas! Swung slack, the strident hinges speak
Their present loss. The happy cage lies bare:
No lively sound disturbs the empty air.
Flock hither, learned Birds, each who enjoys
By Nature's law the noble gift of voice:
Let mourn the Raven, Phoebus' sable bird;
The Starling, mindful of whate'er he's heard;
Let Magpies requiem sing, in chorus ranged,
(Magpies, once women, by Minerva changed);
Her single accent softly join the quail;
And last, the ever-grieving Nightingale
Sing sad lament. Birds, draw your brother's hearse
To funeral flames, and learn this mournful verse:
'Dead is the glory of our airy band,
The Parrot, bright king of the Eastern land;
O'er whom no bird in beauty could prevail,
Not juno's Peacock with his jeweled tail;
Chill Phasis' wing shone no more various hue,
Nor he whom southern Nubians pursue.
He welcomed princes who to Melior came,
And greeted Caesar with his august name.
He served his master as a trusting friend,
And could to dinner-parties gaiety lend,
Repeating words so well! Sure you must own,
Dear Melior , you were never all alone
When he was with you. Yet he shall not go
Obscure, unhonored to the shades below;
His ashes sweet with Syrian perfumes,
And Indian saffron scents his fragile plumes.
No happier, when cold weary age doth tire,
The sacred Phoenix mounts his fragrant pyre.'

I still miss Shandi my husky/wolf and Burri my Parakeet. Just hasn't been a good time for me to get another pet - especially when the company was sending me all over the state for a week or two at a time. I"ll see what I can do for you Rabbi. I always liked those little green parrots. Knew someone who had one a long time ago in the Dallas area. Shop owner. Guy would nap after lunch with the bird snoozing on his hand.
I know what its like. I grew up surrounded by animals , We have dogs, cats, birds, canaries, fish, goats, etc.
The last one whom passed away were Tiki Tiki a stray dog i rescued from the street and Nanny another stray dog. Both lived 14 years old and they were my friends until the end.
Stay strong Rabbi and if you want to talk about it. Im all ears. You have my shoulder.

That's horrible. My deepest condolences for your loss. It's always agony when they go, especially so unexpectedly.
I can't contribute financially to a new feathered friend for you, but I can offer a free memorial drawing of Peepers if you want? If you'd like to accept the offer PM me with a photo reference. (And you can provide a mailing address if you'd like the physical drawing sent to you. I'm a traditional media artist.)
