Guy I knew ended up with the lunar landing module that was in the Boston museum of science until the late 80s. The museum wanted the space for other exhibits, and by then, space was blase, so nobody wanted it. He got a crew of volunteers together, took it apart, and trucked it to a warehouse where he got some long term storage space. I don't know if it was some sort of training shape or actual flight spare. Later on, I heard the Smithsonian got it and it's now on display out at Dulles. Unfortunately I was unable to help with the dismantling. But that would have been cool.
