I shall answer for Beta regarding the pet issue.^^
Well, while there is likely a lot of things you could call the relationship, pet is definitely not wrong.^^
The big guy belongs to a series of artificially bred bioroids who hold a variety of positions in the Empire.
...taking care personally of people, the Emperor himself and his little brother (seen in this picture) of course included.^^
In the case of Gartim here and many of the younger members of Teran society, they serve as a bit of a guardian in all senses, a surrogate parent, personal bodyguard and manservant.^^
Most of them, with some notable exceptions, have a very distinctly dog like personality - and often physical features as well.^^
...in the Teran Empire, most people do have their personal Bioroid, while of course the Emperor has a whole litter of cute and hunky guys vying for his attention.^^
...I fear though, for this world, there is are some serious issues with supplying the demand and a mile long wait list... ^^ ()
...still waiting for my own.

VERY Interesting! makes me wish to learn a great deal more about this world.
If they can just "create" engineered life forms like him, the Genetic Science in this world must be AMAZING.
The concept is very interesting, yet I can foresee a Darkside.
Being able to create bioroids like that so easily makes me worry about them being treated like dogs.
Think of all the pets who are cast out after they stop being "Cute" or in favor of something new or better.
Still Imagine being pampered by such a Loyal and caring Beast. If I had one, I may loose the elbow spikes, but it would be an interesting world to live in.

Funny fact actually, most of the civilian type bioroids don#rt actually have the armblades.^^
...and, well, the dark side...
I think it is less an issue for civilians, who have no free access to new bioroids usually (you get one assigned at birth since human reproduction as well has a bit of a brave new world like central genetic engineering component, difference being that you have a sort of parent, and well, less dystopian stuff^^), but for the Imperial Household, well...
...there is, as mentioned a bit of rivalry and a former favourite getting less attention after a new one got created...
Being cast out is not so much an issue, but the typical situation of old pets getting less attention in favour of newer ones?
Totally.^^
...there is a picture where the former favourite does make it clear though that he still has some claim on his master.^^

Yes, science is pretty advanced.^^
I actually am working on a story which will be set in the Teran Empire...^^
...maybe I should also write a guide?^^
Beta explained a good number of things to me, I'd just have to browse through my emails and compile it.^^
