As you probably may or may not be aware, I'm not entirely satisfied with my own coloring ; that is the colors themselves, the shading texture, and all that shite, I'm progressing in lineart, i think, but colors have always been largley at a standstill.

well, no longer! sortof!

while making random characacter art for Kagura I decided to try some different things, needless to say it turned into a pretty full on morning, i forged ahead despite what I considered to look not so good.

The new method is on the far left, and was basically just me dicking around with airbrush, burn smudge and all that stuff in an attempt to make things not look flat as a sheet, I think it turned out decently, the downside is how long it took; a couple of hours (I'm sure I can get better at it once i know the method).

On the far right is my old way, it's quick, easy and cartoony.

In the middle, just for the hell of it is both mashed over eachother, the result is pleasing, but it took a while to get to that, that is to say not enough gain for too much time spent, but as I said, I'm sure I can speed things up to not suck so much butt.

I also could have chosen simpler subject matter...
