Surprise, here's a post with some solid OCs! Mobs are more of a "species" than a character since they're not an individual, but these two are characters of my own. Meet Zach and Lea, two roommates living in a mediocre flat in a city somewhere. I'll be giving each their own post, but decided to make this one first to give some worldbuilding. They're adult humans living together as roomies, both chipping in on rent and expenses.
Zach is frazzled and often obsessive over a series of unexplained missing persons cases in the area, losing sleep while scrambling over posters, connecting dots, trying to piece together the puzzle. He even has one of those conspiracy boards. In his spare time he watches true crime shows.
Lea, however, seems largely indifferent, and prefers to be slovenly and languid- she seems to go out to buffets often and gains dozens of pounds overnight, around when people go missing. Perhaps she's just stress eating, thinking about all those poor lost people? That's surely what she means by them having an "impact on her diet."
More to come of these two, and possibly some worldbuilding on their setting. I have other stuff in mind.

No way, she's completely a normal gal not responsible for any missing persons cases. No siree.
Worldbuilding about their setting, I meant! More about the characters, the way they act and friends they have, more characters within this setting and how they (totally don't) eat people. General stuff about the world they live in and how the (definitely nonexistent) vore works there.

interesting. Now, the question I'm left with is how common is vore in this setting? Is it like one in a million people do it to ten others? Or is it more like one in a thousand? Do they do it to five? a dozen? I think how common vore is, and how "hidden" it is within this setting is important for maintaining plausibility, since if there's like a person going missing every week, basically every governmental body will be calling in everything to prevent them.
Also, if Zach is so focused on finding out the cause of these disappearances, why hasn't he disappeared yet?

I'd compare it to some wolves in sheep's clothing, among a large herd of sheep. Very uncommon and most can't do it, but there are preds who know and meet each other, and are aware of the existence of preds. Otherwise it's pretty under the radar, the idea being someone getting eaten would be confused on how this is possible, what's going on, how did she do that, etc.
As for why he's not next on a missing poster, who knows? Maybe she likes keeping him around for fun, maybe he just pays rent on time. He's not the only one spared so it's not unfounded, but only she knows why she hasn't vanished him like the others.
