that movie traumatized little me when I was 7... My parents thought all animated movies were for kids...
I love the book, and I love the movie nowadays... but back then... nightmare fuel
Well I am from germany, but back innthe eighties, there wasn't that much adult cartoons in tv... so my parents thought... they could let me watch it ;)
I am a little surprised they actually showed Watership Down the movie largely unedited on network TV once in the US during prime-time. I think outside Japan in the 80s there was no adult cartoons on TV.
In germany they showed pretty much everything unedited... but well, as no one knew the movie beforehand pretty much, people asumed it was suitable for kids...
I watched this in my second grade class and I could never figure out what the name of it was until much later in life. I was so pleased. And wow, that re-watch! I appreciate the tone and content of older animated movies. They really deliver emotionally.
