Lycodon laoensis.
A small and mildly venomous (yet harmless), beautifully coloured snake which may be confused with juveniles of the extremely dangerous Banded Krait at first sight. On a closer look, though, it can be rather easily distinguished: Wolf Snakes lack the triangle body shape that are characteristic for kraits and the yellow bands also follow a quite different pattern, the black space between them decreasing along the body).
The illustrious name for snakes of this genus derives from their dentition; their (non-venomous) front teeth are enlarged and the whole maxilla is strangely arched in shape, which gives both the jaws and facial silhouette a somewhat "canine/dog-like" impression. It also is yet another feature that can help distinguishing them from similar looking snake species (the German name makes it even clearer as "Wolfszahnnatter" does not only refer to the wolf but to wolf teeth)
