Not to mention that giveaway *purrrrrrrrrrrrrr* when she's nursing...
Given that and Tessa's teasin; it only makes sense for him to reach the conclusion the two are in cahoots, until shown evidence otherwise. But even if he didnt sus smth there; its still rly nice to see Yuri bein protective of Star here after findin out what Sarge did, even if he hasnt got the full deets yet. It shows how good of a friend he is, and also how good of a mama he is too :3
I remember being struck cold earlier in the comic when she told Star that Martin was 'a lover, not a fighter'. When you say it about yourself, it's usually self deprecating humor to signify you don't consider yourself to be tough. When you say it about another person, it's usually trying to warn someone that they want to get into your pants, but wouldn't protect you if you needed it. I actually reread the comics several times after seeing that line wondering if she was going to become an antagonist.
Now, I think I see that as ribbing Martin as a friend without realizing the implications. But when I FIRST saw it, I remember suddenly being fearful that she wasn't the kind person she presented herself as and maybe she was doing this just to get her jollies and not caring how a statement like that could impact Star at a vulnerable moment. Possibly even not caring how her actions to protect star might be harmful emotionally. Now I don't think that's it.
The thing about those friends? Sure, they'll cross the line more than anyone, but when the chips are down, they'll be in your corner even if you tell them to buzz off. A bull in a china shop, sure. But a bull all the same.
I love how protective Yuri is bein of Star here, for exactly what ya said here; Marello and Tessa were both teasin Star, for all Yuri knows, Tessa is on the same side as Sarge here
But yea, also hopin that their change, esp after Yuris comment that sounds akin to wizardly timin (a wizard is nvr late quote), can last long enuf to give Star time to clear things up there and give a rundown of the team of who is friends with Star and who arent
And well, Tessa's behaviour may even be givin the impression that she is teasin Star for a similar reason to Sarge's prior teasing; and not bcuz she feels a somewhat caregiverly role to Star, that is at least accepted in some ways
*says with a proud expression as my Cg is plugging the I nose*
Although, didn't she eat all that baby food from that challenge? I don't think she'll be hungry for a while.
