Personal preference. I love him, but 50% of others hate him

I am biased towards water Pokemon but I generally pick my starter based on how much I like the design. I'd say 80-90% of water starters have a good design as opposed to around 50% of Fire. Nearly all of the Grass Pokemon have designs I just don't care for. Preference is always subjective though.

So far my personal favorite game is actually Sword and Shield but I really like medieval stuff and the UK based setting appeals to me as well. I wasn't sure if I liked the whole Dynamaxing thing but it eventually grew on me. Don't know yet if I'm going to buy the DLC. Price seems kinda steep and it's lame that you have to buy it for both versions. I have Legends: Arceus arriving in the mail today and Violet sometime early next week so it's not like I need more content just now.

There's nothing much on the DLC for SwSh. It's basically just to fill up more of the missing Pokedex. There were some side story, but not so much that I would recommend it (Scarlet Violet dlc is better though).

Legend of Arceus is a unique turn for a Pokemon game, in a good way. And you should enjoy the Violet's soundtrack
