No, Jat used to be a bandit before banditing around the mountains of Shõlresa, a memory devour who cultivates a garden of hedonists who's excesses it can feed off of. when you piss off a god that can eat memories and integrate you against your will into its garden well... There goes who you were.
Its what shõlresa meant in chapter 5 when it describe Jat as "Once a firey brigand, now a warm follower"
No, no ormer here.

Hokay!
So, Jat was a bandit. And a nasty one, too. But hey? Looks like even bandits look out for each other, so that's nice.
Unfortunately, Jat is also batshit crazy when he doesn't get his smoke. And Boss Drek is not only coming into range, but he's also distracted and focused on Getterbet.
Bad move.
If Jat can get his puff, Boss Drek is going to be singing a whole new tune.

Well, looks like Ergi is a good name for a sorcerer - or an irritable person. Perhaps he was both back then. Albeit a little bigger, it seems.
The hardcore dip into the past leaves me cluelessly confused,
but the interaction between the big one and the needs-to-smoke
is some of the most powerfully believable and anguished
moment of identity epiphany I've seen in years.
Good to see there is some conflict in the bad dreks' corner.
The one good thing about vicious predatory evil
is its tendency to eat itself,
and to have people
break away from that group
once their personal threshold of nastiness has been crossed.

Your storytelling is incredibly compact
and quick-flowing.

This is a precarious time for the audience's goodwill, I understand.
Sometimes, you need to break their hearts to stay true to the story.
I feel like a mongrel stowaway, not having developed as close
a bond with the characters, but you convey emotional points
so well, that I'm bracing for tragedy and loss.
May your stylus strike true for the next momentous pages!
