Commission I bought to accompany a text (see below) I wrote which explored a hypothetical before and after situation. Big thanks to Ookami who nailed down the concept I had in mind with this.
"The Path of a Buddha"
I am a junkie for games, movies and comics. I would buy one and have fun with it
for a short while. Once I was finished the good feeling wore off quickly and I
would be craving for more. The more I bought, the stronger the cravings would
come back. It was a never ending monstrosity that got out of control, to the
point that I would steal money from the store where I worked just so I could get
my next fix. Today I happen to come accross a story about buddhist monks who had
made a vow of perpetual austerity and were content living with just the basics.
I say to myself: "Should I try quitting cold turkey?" I imagine myself giving
away my entire collection of games, DVDs and comics to see if I could be content
without it. "That's just insane!" my mind shouts. "At least all the clutter in
my room would be gone." is my second thought. I will probably be pondering all
night wheter or not I should go through with this experiment. Tomorrow I'll make
my decision...

Fascinating. Thank you very much for sharing these views and experiences with us! I too have made the experiences that simplicity is a blessed thing. I was not surprised to find out that many of the most happy people I have ever encountered where monks who lived in nature and refrain from consumerism and earthly desires.
