Earlier this month, me and my friends got the chance to pet an actual beluga whale!
This was my first time I got to pet any kind of cetacean, so needless to say I was extremely excited to meet these beautiful animals up close. The swim suit they gave us was fairly tight, and I was warned the water was going to be freezing cold, but surprisingly, the temperature didn't really bother me too much. The time finally came when they brought in the beluga and I was ecstatic, but not too much since nobody wanted to scare it. The beluga came to me and gave me a kiss, and it was freaking awesome, but also not what I was expecting. I was expecting them to feel like a boiled egg, and although their skin was definitely very cold and rubbery, it was much more rougher than I imagined. Very skin like and not as smooth and slippery as an egg. I got to squeeze their melon, and it was indeed very squishy! Most videos I've seen of their melon made it look as if it was a pocket filled with air, but it wasn't. It had some heft/resistance to it, so it felt more like squishing a cold and fat belly. We also got to pet a white-sided dolphin, which felt less squishier than the beluga of course, but not for too long since it wasn't used to getting this much attention.
A really fun and magical experience overall! I would definitely do it again if I had the chance.

I've petted a Beluga before when I was younger, and it was so weird touching the melon. I didn't expect it to be squishy at all! Also, we got to feed them a giant bucket of fish, and needless to say, they swallowed it whole. Glad you had a good time though, and I'm guessing this new melon knowledge is going to bring some interesting art to the mind.
