Rhelki's so scary she frightened the color off the page.
Anyways, page 1 of 2. Sketched up the initial version of this over a month ago and have slowly been working on it in the background. Next page in a few days when I finish. Only a few panels left to draw and no more crazy background like I decided to make for myself in that opening shot so it should go much more quickly.
Anyways, we have the first time I've drawn Catriona since her debut. Lots of fun practice with different angles and poses I don't usually draw. I particularly like Kaj's sleeping form. The coloring is slightly simplified over how I've been brushing out all of the fur in my other drawings. I'm still trying to figure out a good way to simplify stuff for a comic form so I can actually complete pages in a reasonable time. Also, I need to stop going so hard on the backgrounds. I enjoy doing them, but they are just killing me.
Also, bonus points if you can actually figure out what Kaj's listening to. Probably only true freaks will get it.

I love that last panel. I can just hear a sudden and frightening sting accompanying Rhelki's voice pitch shifting to reflect her demented proclamation of vengeance! The sudden shift in both Catriona and Kira's expressions are hilarious, too! Can't wait for part 2.
I don't know how to read musical notes; is what Kaj is listening to something you've played on stream before?

Thanks a lot FtD. That last panel was a particular joy to draw and was actually the first one I did on this page.
And the music is not thing I think I've played on stream. Really I don't think anyone's going to get it. It's pretty weird and obscure and mostly an Easter egg for myself.

Thanks Strand. I loved drawing Kaj in this. I really was trying to get him to look like one of those pictures of foxes as they sleep lying on their back. Though, I guess technically he's not asleep since then he'd be be exuding dangerous magic. But he's pretty out of it and into his music at least.
He definitely deserves what's coming to him here though. I'm on Rhelki's side on this one.

🎵 ~What will we do with the drunken sailor early in the morning?~
The forest and especially the grass in the background do seem
like it must have taken forever to render all that.
As much as I admire the hard work on display,
I'd much rather your spared your wrists and eyes
by simplifying such environmental details in the future,
at least for the pieces where the landscape is not the focus
of the piece. Artists tend to rely on a lot of cunning trickery
to render sweeping vistas as efficiently and quickly as possible,
and you may find it worth your while to study some of those tricks.
It's a lovely little story, and the background does look captivatingly elaborate,
and all the more immersive and plausible for it.
Kaj should have known better than to relax
and get lost in the sound on what looks like
a Stone Age sacrificial slab.

The backgrounds really aren't that bad to do. They are rather simplified with lots of messy scratchy line work. I'm always debating if I should actually try and do them like this since that's how I would actually ink them if I was working with pens traditionally or do a speed paint which I find actually does go far more quickly. It's something I'm still experimenting with and so these are learning opportunities for me.
Kaj thought he was safe, but should have known not to nap there.

An argument could be made against inking things like grass and foliage at all,
especially if your motion blur lines seem so similar.
The one place where I really like those sharp
dark grass blades is under
the Stonehenge bench,
where they double
as shade carriers.
Hard contours are best used sparingly,
but you know that well, anyway.
These comics of yours
are fully intelligible,
vivid and dynamic,
so it's just a matter of polish
and the refined efficiency of your technique.
Thank you for sharing your stories, be they visual, textual or mixed!
