yus, i did a ton of off roading with it, after i get settled in ill probably be hitting some of the 4x4 gatherings again, it has traveled to las cruces new mexico with me, and scaled the trails up the organ mountains, and it has been all over clear lake cali, and all over the mountains around roseburg and area.
it has a 351 windsor a 4 speed w granny gear, a military 4 speed transfer case, that has overdrive, straight through, low one, and insane low gear.
the axles are chevy 12 bolt bolt positracks redrilled to take ford wheel pattern. it gets 24 mog driving sane on the highway :)
i used to be the person who regularly got called with the message hey im stuck come rescue me.

I glanced at your description and saw 2.5 in and assumed that you only chopped the top. I recently went to the streetrod nationals and all the jeep trucks their were made into extended cabs but none of them looked natural on the truck. Your cab extension looks very natural and well crafted. I am assuming that you have the four wheel drive by the looks of the tires.
yes 4x4 that sucker has been at the jamboree at las cruces new mexico around 14 years ago, it has 1 ton springs 3.73 to 1 12 bolt posi axles both ends, military 4 speed xfer case with oh shit ultra low, low, direct, and overdrive, 4 speed new procsess transmission with granny gear and pto, 351 windsor with ported and polished heads with extensive chamber work done.
so far as i remember the pickup frames are the same as wagon frames back then, ive see a considerable number of v8 swaps - my thoughts are fabricate a full cross member for the moter mounts - takes stress of the only lightly boxed frame. the cab/body mounts have a tendancy to get a crack right below them where they are welded into the frame running parrelel to the frame - ive had good luck extending the mount so it reaches top to bottem on the frame and simply and carefully welding the crack up, so far as i am aware the frames are non heat treated low carbon steel i did the stretch 17 or so years ago and none of the welds have cracked - i used mild 6013 and stitch welds to put the extension on . - 64 chev truck frame is a tight fit over the outside of the stock willies frame.
