For Sale on Etsy: Coming Soon!
Size: Large/Full sized Wand; 15 inches long

Polish: Beeswax and Olive Oil
Notes: This wand is harvested from a dead branch
This is my first wand that is the traditional "full" size (inner elbow to finger tip). The polish brings out the rich colours hidden in the pale wood.

Again, how do you do the circular cuts and make it look so polished and clean within the cuts, is it the wax and olive oil?

With that, I gently started sawing with the back of my knife at an angle until I had the basic form of the groove, then I went over it with the sharpening stone that came with the knife. With a lot of woods, I would actually recommend a piece of rounded limestone to use to smooth pieces of wood (I just happen to have the porous sharpening stone handy). The hardest part is getting the grooves cut to begin with, which isn't really hard, just delicate work. And remember, if you accidentally slip and graze the rest of the wood with whatever you're using to make the grooves, you can just sand it down later. The polish doesn't really smooth the wood out any, it just seals it from damage and enhances the colour.

okay, thank you. I just need sand paper and a sharpening stone. I have like 4 branches under my bed.

I'm going to try to remember tomorrow to take a picture of my crafting tools and I'll post in my scraps.

Great thank you, I hope you have a wonderful night as it is 12:26 am for me so I am guessing you are around the same time zone. So you need sleep. I will be on. Right now I am crafting one of the wands.

Actually, we're in California, so it's only 9:30 here :) I'm so use to living in AL, that I have to remind myself whenever I'm going to call someone back there. I've got some wood that I've been saving up for wands too, but I've been trying to get that ship finished for that contest, so I haven't had time for any other projects this past few weeks. Hopefully now I'll be able :)

My mom offered to let us live here and help with the baby when it came (a few months ago), and we didn't want to raise it in the Bible belt.

Yeah, I hate living in the south. I wish I could live somewhere better, like Oregon.

Yeah... Northern California would have been better, we're stuck in a suburb of Los Angeles ><
