"Lungri had effectively won.
Mowgli and Lala had been living in the Man Village in order to help those being Akumatized as well as to unlock secrets of the Miraculous, any key to defeating Shere Khan for good. However, Boldeo was keen to not only expose them but twist them as every warlocks of the Jungle that have been try true perpetrators of the "demon possessions." These heighten emotions in him as well as the confusion amongst the villagers was too good for Lungri to pass up.
One Akuma fluttered over with Boldeo imbuing it into his rifle and declaring to the growing mob that he shall take this unworldly power for himself, turning it back onto the evil ones. Becoming Maledictator, the villagers were brainwashed against Mowgli and Lala even as they transformed. However, when friends of their's were threatened, they had no choice but to surrender.
Giving up their Miraculous to an villain was bad enough. Being tied up and caged? It humiliated them to no end. Boldeo had gotten a traveling circus's ring leader to take in the two of them as a potential double act while he held onto the Miraculous. Shere Khan had loathed how close the two heroes had gotten and saw death as too good for them. If they wanted to be freaks, then let the whole world gawk at them.
They'd be good, mindless entertainment in his new reality."
So without getting into the dirty details, this is a facet of my series finale for my AU. The Miraculous have been taken by a opportunistic human, the Jungle Book version of Bob Roth even, and Shere Khan's chances at his wish have skyrocketed. Mowgli and Lala are caged up to be paraded as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Their friends and family have to save them but also need to keep Boldeo from discovering how to summon Gimmi.
And all of that is just Act One.
