Thank you! Been trying to learn how to get better at doing these kinds of environment paintings myself, but some general tips I find helpful is to make sure that you get the overall values correct at the start, paint with big strokes in the beginning and zoom out a lot to make sure it reads well. Also, set the painting to grayscale from time to time to check the values. If a painting doesn't read well in black and white, it won't read well with color.

Mmhmm, but no matter what it's original form was, it's now just a golem sitting dutifully on its plinth, and that's all it'll be seen as, nothing more~

It's a very good thing that the golems are now around after that big wave of travelers went missing on this exact path years ago. Shame they never found out who did it, or what happened to the victims...

I imagine it's in a standby mode and will activate itself if it detects bad actors around, but if a witch wants to take control over it for themselves, then they can easily do it like any other golem by channeling some of their own magic into the golem core.
