Here's the thing-
Once upon a time, there was Diaclone. And it was good. And Diaclone brought forth many vehicles, and vehicles that transformed into robots.
And one of them - no.17, in fact - was called Battle Convoy.
Two years later, Battle Convoy would see release in the USA as Optimus Prime.
However.... there was also Powered Convoy. This was the truck part of Battle Convoy - ie, the part that transformed into the robot - with a different trailer; however, the trailer itself transformed and 'combined' with the partially-transformed truck into a much larger robot. I don't know whether, in the context of the - extremely sparse - Diaclone lore this was supposed to be the same vehicle, but upgraded, or a completely new vehicle based on the original.
In any event, Powered Convoy was also released in the USA with a spiffy repaint in fresh red and sky blue - however not as a powered-up version of Optimus Prime, but rather as Ultra Magnus, a new character.
In several iterations of the franchise, Optimus and Magnus are brothers, for whatever that means for Transformers; in the Dreamwave comics (boo! hiss!) Magnus lost his exoskeleton, revealing his base form, which looks like an (almost) all-white Optimus Prime. IIRC, there was at least one story which mentioned his exo-armor was originally designed for Optimus, but used to save Magnus' life after he was critically injured (Citation badly needed, though).
In any event - the Generation 1 version of Ultra Magnus has an exo-skeleton that can fit Optimus Prime, since their basic robot modes are identical. There is even a character called Delta Magnus, about whom we otherwise know nothing, who is colored like the Diaclone Powered Convoy.
But in forty years' time, I have never seen G1 Optimus Prime in an appropriately-colored Powered Convoy exoskeleton and I just wanted to draw what that would look like.
