Heh, slight miss spelling on my part the word I was looking for is kabuki.
Kabuki Masks are popular in Japanese theatre, and were also worn by Samurai (usualy representing either an animal or an oni {demon})
The traditional style of these masks looks alot like the face paint/ make-up on your character.
