Malkavian.
The name sends chills down any spine who know it, mortal or undead, Camarilla or Sabbat. Not only are they vampires, ageless, inhuman, thirsty, but the twisted lunatic clan; powerful psychics, every one, in exchange for the Embrace stealing away their sanity. As subtle as a disconnect from mortals or a bizarre self-delusion to as blatant as violent superhuman tantrums against imaginary foes or catatonic fits akin to that sleep of ages known as Torpor. Even their Ghouls, not vampires yet but still enhanced by their blood, show greater lapses in control over their pent-up psychoses as the trade-off for their own taste of undead might in the mortal coil.
A fair trade, some more power-hungry individuals may cry! What's a mind in exchange for such insight and talent, such unparalleled psychic potential to twist the minds and hearts of my enemies and gleam their darkest secrets without even trying? But one should never forget the great tragedy about these lunatic seers. For as wacky and wild and fun and fancy-free as even the gibbering jabberwocky Ghula, the second to bear that title and its status as the 'Mouth of Madness', may appear... like all of his fellow Childre of the ancient Dr. Jacques Snow, like all Malks; nay, like all vampires...
Once upon a time, that lunatic was just a man.
And 'just a man' shall he be... nevermore.
The Gift of the Blood. The Curse of the Line.
Malkavian for life.
A birthday present for my younger brother made in between a massive workload at the job to support my animation work. Oi... but honestly, I'm most pleased. I don't normally like the thought of human stuff on FA, but, er, vampirism loophole and... hell, what am I going to do, share it on dA? Not bloody likely (couldn't resist). And Jekyll and Hyde Musical joke because... why the hell not~? I combined a number of elements, from a fan song about the particular vampire type that utilizes sand art in the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5Blx2p4hhk) to a graphic novel of the Vampire Lestat done primarily in watercolour and pastels or grease pencils... and I must say, I'm most pleased and hope my brother will be too.
A few regulars might know I'm very into roleplaying games and of late I've been heading two World of Darkness games; Demon the Fallen: Rise set in Miami and Vampire the Masquerade: Festival set in New Orleans (no relation to True Blood, honest... no promises on the Anne Rice influences, tee-hee). And this is my brother's character, G[REAL NAME REDACTED], currently known as 'Ghula', the second to bear that title. the youngest Childre formerly representing Envy as a Ghoul and taking over for his Sire as Gluttony and dubbed the Mouth of Madness, serves two crucial roles; to intentionally overfeed and swell himself with blood to feed his sleeping master and to speak on his behalf at vampiric council meetings via long-distance telepathy. And his past... well... even Ghula does not seem to remember everything. Nobody but the ancient almost-always-comatose Primogen, 'head vampire' for lack of a better term, Dr. Jacques Snow, seems aware, and he seems unlikely to tell. All that is known is that Ghula one day simply appeared, begging for audience, and Dr. Snow, aware of his presence psychically and welcomed him happily... from thereon, nobody knows. And perhaps it is best they never do...
Dr. Jacques Snow, a long-time Ghoul finally turned into a vampire in the late 1400s as an old man, has a habit of Siring or having his Childre Sire until they have a total of five Childre (or in this case, technically four) at a time and saving one Ghoul; each represents a different sin with himself representing Sloth. The Ghoul, serving as the spare, the next in line to become a vampire when one Childre is slain, represents Envy, currently the psychiatric head of the Jacques Snow Upper Louisiana Hospital, Dr. Paul Creamer; happy of course to have his lifespan extended but always craving the power of a true vampire and often finding himself deeply annoyed at the, compared to the mental states of the vampires he serves, dull problems of his patients.
Bea and Lex, the reason it can be four or five, were Embraced in the 1970s. One could be mistaken for thinking of them as twins or lovers or something in between; the truth is far more perturbing. Abused horribly in their youth, the tortured genderfluid soul divided into two halves, one female and one male; the vain and prissy ego Bea representing Pride and the flirtatious sadomasochist id Lex representing Lust. Now with Malkavian powers to distort perception, they switch personalities and visages on a whim, as easily as turning in place. The only ones who know which personality came first are Dr. Snow and Dr. Creamer, and they will never tell, naturally.
Becky-Anne Haller, 'Lady Avaritia', the Sin of Greed, is by far the eldest Childre of Dr. Snow, Embraced in the 1600s; a woman pirate who thought gold and jewels were the world, prayed they would quiet the hungry moaning voices in her head. Introduced to the world of the supernatural, however, she found a new craving; magical secrets and wondrous items held infinitely more value than mere money. She does not return to New Orleans much, preferring to travel the world for new loot to plunder, but vowing to return in times of crisis.
And last but not least, Vinnie Billingsby, the Sin of Wrath and the second youngest, being Embraced in 1996 after a referral from Dr. Creamer, would appear to most a calm, pleasant janitor, preferring to just listen to his slow jazz on his headphones and clean the floors with a mop he seems blissfully unaware is dry. This is in truth his means of containing his dark pyromaniacal tendencies and his secret cruel streak; his fellow vampires never dare give him a book of matches or let his phone's battery run out unless they need someone completely and utterly wiped from the face of the earth...
I debated posting it here like I debated putting all that info there, but alas, I did. So if you're interested at all or anything stands out to you, good or bad, please, do let me know. That's how we grow as artists.
