What horrible crimes has he committed?! A couple misdemeanors, believe it or not. Though he was only meant to stay there a few days, he actually began to like it. So once he got out, he decided to commit robberies with a very realistic (but still plastic) knife. He guessed if he didn’t mind the outcome, and actually might PREFER jail, might as well get something out of it, without bringing any physical harm to anyone, except himself*. Maybe a bit of trauma to people he robbed, until they figure out it was a fake weapon. Kyle has gotten a bit bold now after committing such crimes so he may need to watch his attitude before being put in his place.
* Kyle had his wrist fractured as he was taken to the ground and got a black eye when his face was stepped on by the cops. Other scrapes and bruises but nothing major from the roughness of the police he tried to evade.
