Worship of the old gods ended milennia ago, particularly of their judging god Faceless Hakmath the Void. In belief, if a soul was not worthy of being sent into their heaven, Hakmath would devour the soul to digest it and recreate it as a new being. With the end in belief, the gods died out, but their Angels remain. Faceless Angels are powerful spellcasters, and are very dangerous, even to other Angels. The gods are reluctant to use them whenever wars break out between heaven and the Demon realms, for they care not about bystanders or innocent lives. An entire city was sunk beneath the oceans of Earth the last time they were deployed, and as such many of them were reincarnated. Gargamel the Dark is the Angel displayed; the very angel to blame for sinking Atlantis.
Underneath the mask is nothing; just a blank face, and the eye in the mask operates separately from the body, as this is where the soul is housed. The body is but a doll; a powerful, twisted imitation of real life.
