Thank You pt2 (penciling process)
Step Two - pencils.
After having drafted the image onto paper ...

I then start to refine the image. I put a little more thought and planning into the background. Ive decided that she should be giving her adoring audience a final glance before leaving the stage, into the back room ^_^
When refining the pencils I also sort out any problems I may personally have with the piece, like fixing her pose as well as anatomical issues. Here I changed the angle of her left leg as well as straightened out her right arm and twisted her torso around in the other direction.
I also refine details like jewellery and clothes in this stage. Adding a bit more to her jewelery and giving her a cute lil waist cinch as well adding a little hint, suggesting she's wearing a thong.
In the draft stage I was also unhappy with her face. I didn't think it was as feminine or as seductive as I would of liked it to be, so i redrew her face almost entirely until I was satisfied.
Something else I do after Ive refined the image to how I want it, I then transfer it from the standard paper I was using onto illustration or bristol board. Something acid-free and of heartier gsm/thickness. This particular bristol board I've drawn on here is 224g.
I used to have a lightbox my boyfriend made for me, out of an old laptop screen and various parts. But that is currently dead, so I used another method. I just line up my bristol board over the paper I've sketched on and during the daylight hours I use a window.
Just press them to the window and the light on the other side should filter through the papers enough so you can see the sketch on the other paper.
From there I pretty much just trace what ive already drawn ^^
If its night time and you have a decent monitor, just put it on a bright white screen (like opening another tab in firefox), and do the same thing as I did on the window.
Granted transfering images like that arnt very comfortable. So i do recommend investing in a lightbox. Though they can be pricey so i recommend shopping around on somewhere like ebay.
Once, it has be tranfered onto bristol, after some minor refinements (like using a ruler for some of the straight lines), it's then ready for me to go on to inking ^_^

I find your description of how you do your work interesting. Ever since I started using a graphic tablet, all my artwork has been totally digital - everything from sketching ideas to the finished piece is done on my computer. I do occasionally doodle and make notes in my student books that I use to collect ideas, but thats only when I'm away from the computer.
I dunno why. I just haven't gone totally digital yet. I looove coloring digitally and i can sketch and ink digitally (even though i take longer that way).
I guess I just like the contriol I have with real media and so tend to like doing the sketches and inks that way ^^

My inking skills leave a lot to be desired, yet when I was trying out OC4, I got revitalized with inking with it's pen tools. Heh, after I spent half an hour drawing and colouring a figure, I started to scrawl all over the canvas area making up a written languages for one of my species.
Mmm, maybe I love it so much because I can easily erase and redraw strokes I am unhappy with.
