So, back when I was writing the Spice of Life series I had a passing idea of giving each of the Winners an equipped item they'd use while exploring mystery dungeons. I didn't end up following through for the others, but Malus is shown using X-Ray Specs a few times in the series. I always pictured them as cool, slick sunglasses. In fact, Malus' original design included sunglasses, though I'm glad I didn't keep those on him in the end.

Anyway, The Deluxe release of Rescue Team for the Switch brought with it official art of all the items and I realised just how dorky the X-Ray Specs actually looked. A few friends in the voice call pointed out they're based on Venonat while I was drawing this, but I couldn't resist a chance to make Malus look ridiculous. He'll probably still use them in Clearspring stories now and then, but they probably won't look like this.
