i do a similar thing like that. c:
except i do the skin/clothing as one linework
make a new layer for hair
new layer for eyes.
put it in a folder. LOL
then click on the folder and use the magic wand tool.. but most of the time, my lines are always connected.
so if it's all blue on the outside, it's all good |3c

yeah. i think my inking takes the longest out of everything now.
