"Now Tama, where exactly do you think you're going?"
"Home - to the Pride Lands. I never should have come here."
"To the Pride Lands, hmm? With my cub?"
"He's not your cub! You stole him!"
It's always heartbreaking to find out that someone you love isn't the person you thought they were. Tama finds this out in a big way when her half-sister, Zira, brings her the cub of a murdered friend to raise as Scar's heir. Tama had always believed that her sister was innocent of the crimes she'd been accused of, and even followed her into exile to support her. Now she knows that Zira is just as evil as everyone always said. She tries to flee with Kovu and her own daughter, Lesedi, but by now it's far too late. Tama can't hope to win in an unfair fight, and is tragically killed. Zira takes both cubs as her own, changing Lesedi's name to Vitani or "demon of war". Unfortunately for Zira, these two cubs will both play an important part in her undoing. If you want to learn more about this story, you can read my TLK Prequel Synopsis.
Oof, remind me to never draw a picture with this many characters again. This took SO LONG, and was very challenging in places. I used a lot of references for the poses, just because I find TLK style a little hard to nail down. Outlanders in particular are rough, especially when it comes to the faces. Still, I'm proud of how this turned out, and I was excited to implement my designs for the Outsiders. The two foreground characters are Enzi and Amne, and the background characters (from left to right) are Tishala, Kaluwa, Ramla, Jaha, and Njeri. You can see how they fit together by looking at their family tree.
