I was thinking about my Lion Guard AU recently and it made me want to try drawing Kion as I saw him at different stages during the story. He is consistently small for his age, underweight, and often has dark circles under his eyes. CliffNotes Version of my Lion Guard AU
-The Lion Guard does exist, but is more ceremonial than anything. That's something I still need to change about the fully written version.
-Kion is Kiara's littermate, but is born with an immunodeficiency disorder which slows his growth and makes him prone to getting sick. Because of this, he is constantly confined to Pride Rock.
-When the isolation starts to send Kion into a depression, Rafiki begins to tell him stories, assisted by drawings he makes on the cave walls. Through these stories Kion creates a fantasy world, using the drawings as a basis for the characters in it. So almost the entire cast of the Lion Guard exists only in this imaginary world.
-As an adolescent, Kion catches an illness that he can't seem to recover from and is taken to Rafiki's tree for treatment. In this fever dream state he images Scar's ghost, the corrupting scar, and the Tree of Life, based on snippets of things he's getting from his few moments of consciousness.
-Kion survives, but is still recovering when Kovu comes to the Pride Lands and when Zira and the Outlanders attack, accounting for his absence in the second film.
-Kion is envious after Kiara's wedding, fearful that no one would want him as a mate. He imagines Rani into his fantasy world around this time.
-Vitani, looking for a place in the Pride following her mother's traumatic death, asks to be the new leader of the Lion Guard, since she is the Prince Consort's sister. Kion is resistant, thinking that - without the hope of one day leading the Guard - he has no purpose. He eventually comes around when Vitani empathizes with him and shares her own feelings of being lost.
Kion helps Vitani put together the new Lion Guard from the sidelines, and eventually grows stronger as he matures, allowing him to occasionally accompany them on missions for observation and instruction.
All the backgrounds with Kiara are from the movies/books, but all drawings of Kion were drawn by me. I just wanted to give people an idea of the size difference between Kion and Kiara. By the time Kion is fully mature (probably late 20s to early 30s) he and Kiara are about the same height. By the way, I know the image of Kiara is not her as an actual adult, but it's all I had to work with. I had already spent too much time drawing Kion, and did NOT want to go back through and draw Kiara too.

The Kion art was drawn by me, and you are not permitted to steal, trace, copy, reference, or otherwise redistribute them in any way. I also do not want to see this posted on RP sites, Facebook, YouTube, etc. without my permission. That's still art theft.
