Learning about other cultures and traditions is always interesting for Farley, so when he learned about a festival on an island near Paldea, he decided to check it out. It was called the Festival of Masks, originating from a story long ago of an oni who lived in the nearby mountain who had masks that gave them power and three pokemon who gave their lives to take three of it’s four masks to weaken it when it came down in a rage. Farley was enjoying the festival when he noticed a strange woman with a very well made mask. He tried to approach her, but she fled to the mountain, accidently dropping her mask in her hurry. She tried to retrieve it, but Farley picked it up first, leading to her leaving it behind, however Farley caught a glimpse of her face, seeing she wasn’t a human. The next morning, Farley made his way up the mountain to return the mask, having spent the night repairing some cracks after it fell on the ground. He soon found the woman in a cave, seeing what he suspected: she was a pokemon, one he would later learn was named ogerpon. She was shy at first, but after he returned the mask, she was very happy and started to warm up to him. They talked more and she revealed that her name was Yamauba, and that the story the villagers knew was backwards. She had come to Kitakami village long ago with her human partner from a foreign land, however the people were scared of them due to their strange appearance, leading them to be ostracised in the mountain caves. That was until the local mask maker gifted them four special masks that they used to visit the village without scaring people. It worked well, the masks causing them to become very popular among the villagers. However, it also drew the attention of three pokemon who wanted the masks for themselves, sneaking in while the pair were away from their cave to steal them. However Yamauba’s old partner returned early to see them there, leading to a fight. He did what he could, but could only save one of the masks, with the cost of his life. Yamauba returned later to only see the mask and signs of a battle, sending her into a rage. She donned the remaining mask and went after the offending pokemon, killing them but failing to retrieve the other masks they stole. However, she had been seen by the villagers who had thought she was an evil oni, and that the thieves were protecting them. They created the story still told today, enshrining the tomb of the pokemon and gathering the masks they took. Farley wanted to set the story straight, but knew as an outsider it would be difficult to convince the locals. That was until he met a descendant of the old mask maker who also knew the truth. Together, the three of them managed to convince the villagers of the truth, and they all apologized to Yamauba, returning the masks after so long, and swore to tell the real story of the oni. However, as much as Yamauba accepted their apology, she did not want to remain in Kitakami, and asked Farley to go with him, something he agreed to.
Height: 5’5”
Personality: She has quite kind, gentle, curious and mischievous personality, longing for companionship after her many years alone. However, she does have quite the wrathful side, coming out primarily when someone harms those she holds close
