Honest. Word of God has it that Hythlodaeus was meant to be somewhat of an older enably-type kind of man in the trio of the 'adult' Emet-Selch and the 'young and brash' Azem. More like the mischievous grandfather type who's pulling pension anyway and has nothing else to do but support his friends to achieve the best they can be... and egg them on.

Kindof like Montichaigne in Sharlayan acts by kindof poking at the forum and in his way helping the twins (and WoL) with information.
