Like a strand of barbed wire held in place by its own tension, livestock guardian dogs live a precarious balance. They exhibit many primitive traits, like their narrow chests, muted double coat, their mask, their eye color, and many of the behaviors and instincts that render them unsuitable for home-life. But also, they treat animals which would otherwise be their prey with the utmost care and loyalty, except when their humans come to take some of those animals away. Their sense of discernment and careful attention during those moments is palpable as they look to you for reassurance.
