Festival - Collab with TaniDaReal
This is the piece that
Tanidareal and I did for the FCN conbook cover. The scene is a Japanese summer festival, with lots of characters enjoying themselves in yukata (light summer kimono), and getting treats/playing games at the various booths.
I did the pencil sketch of the piece, as well as inked it digitally, and Tani did the coloring.

I find that when people actually do large pieces like this they tend to start to get lazy about the stuff in the back and the extra people they are trying to add. Doesn't seem that way here. It's rather nice looking. I am not much of a fan or actually very in depth with the japanese culture but meh, I do like it.
Is it my imagination, or are there men and women wearing kimonos in this picture?
Sorry if it seems like a silly question, dumb American has always associated kimonos with female attire...
But as for the content of the art... stellar as always, Kacey. The details are marvelous, the people look real, and the kid's balloon is absolutely adorable. Two thumbs and two semithumbs up! And if my hind legs had thumbs, they'd be up too!

In Japan kimono are for men or women. But there is a difference between mens and womens kimono - womens are generally more colorful and flambuoyant with more intricate patterning, while mens kimono are simpler, with generally more earthy tones and simpler more geometric patterns.
Oh I like that anime a lot =).
This type of scene/festival is very common in anime - and they usually have the same booths... The material that I used as inspiration for creating the scene was clips from Urusei Yatsura, Tenchi Muyo, and photos of actual festival booths ..
