My parents' dog does the same thing. She won't even bring the ball to you; she'll stop a few feet from you and start tossing the ball back and forth until it happens to roll in your direction. Then, before you've even picked it up, she takes off in the direction you last threw it and crouches down, waiting for the ball to come flying her way.

I used to do this with rolled up receipts. I would never lift my arm to throw it, if the toy is light enough you rest it on your pointer finger and flick it with your thumb like a quarter. They don't get a chance to guess the direction and once you get used to doing it you can flick it while you're still bent over to pick it up. makes me miss having kitties

LMAO.. yeah at least dogs wait until you make the motion of throwing.. so true, I've seen this happen before with a cat..
don't get me wrong, I like some cats, like ours, despite a mild allergy to her, though some cats I can't even enter the same room due to the allergy.

This reminds me exactly of what our cat does when you pick up a toy and act like you are going to play with her, she just runs like heck then turns around and looks at you going "where is it?"

my cat is the same, if you see he's staring at your hand, all you have to do is make a swing motion, he will run in that direction, knock into chairs and walls, and once there, he will start spinning around looking for something I didnt even throw... damn funny
