Horses can be such hams! I think they have more in common with cats than any of us want to admit. I had horses for 30 years and I miss them.

awww i feel with you. i sadly never got horses for my own but my grand partens had some on their farm and i grew up with them. a few years ago they had to sell their farm and all horses. it was hard for me but not to compare with your 30 years.

Learn to ride hun I don't mean sit and be carried but RIDE as a partner with the animal.
Learn to stand quietly and just know they are there deprecating your company. [that is hard for a hyper grandma even now]
Learn to trust and they will trust you to approach when they are resting.

they like to be watched it gives them a feeling of exhibitionism, they also understand that a camera is being used. They don't know what it does, but somehow 'know' they are being idolized somehow. I noticed that aspect every time I used to go photograph horses. most would ignore me they everyone was interested as soon as I started pointing and clicking. (everyone being the horses on the their side of the fence
