She didn’t like doing this, and Electra set the plastic stick aside on the bathroom sink as she fastidiously washed her damp paws. She had meant to use the test once a month since she’d started having unprotected intercourse with Daniel, but as it became part of her morning ritual, she discovered that she was doing it once a week.
Using the test required urine, and the whitetail doe thought the sample collection process was icky, not to mention demeaning.
Was she subconsciously that eager? The princess wondered as she dried her paws on a towel. It wasn’t really required that the heiress to the Kingdom of Kervina be pregnant when she and her fiancé approached the altars, but she thought it would be a traditional touch.
Said fiancé, still sound asleep and likely drooling on his pillow, wholeheartedly approved. Electra and Daniel had been betrothed over six months earlier, with the actual wedding still half a year away.
Electra hung the towel up and glanced down at the plastic stick.
The doe’s ears went up at the sight of the dark blue plus sign, and her tail began flagging.
“Da –“ She paused, cleared her throat, and asked, “Daniel?”
“Mmh? Yes, love?” came the buck’s drowsy voice from the bedroom.
“Come here,” and her tone of voice spurred the buck out of the bed and onto his hooves.
Daniel rubbed sleep from his eyes and squinted in the glare of the bathroom lights. “Yes, Electra?”
“Look.” She pointed at the pregnancy test.
He looked, and started flagging.
When he straightened up to look at her, he was grinning from ear to ear.
She matched the grin before they embraced and kissed. Electra felt his paws on her unclad buttocks and she wriggled in his grasp as their tongues dueled. She pulled back and gave him a mock grimace. “Ugh, morning breath,” she teased.
Daniel laughed. “Get used to it. So, we’re going to have a daughter.”
“Son,” his fiancée countered.
“Twins,” they chorused, and started laughing.
Daniel nuzzled her. “It’s what we planned for,” the whitetail buck said. “But we can’t rely just on that,” and he tipped his antlers toward the pregnancy test.
“I’ll make a doctor’s appointment later this morning,” Electra said. “If I am pregnant, we’ll tell our parents.”
“They’ll be thrilled down to their hooves.” Daniel smiled. “And if you’re not?”
She gave her fiancé an arch look. “What do you think?”
Daniel grinned and stepped away from her to glance into the bedroom. “We have a couple hours before I have to get ready for work,” he said.
She looked down, and grinned. “Perfect,” she said, and as they returned to the bedroom she started thinking ahead.
Namely, how much the dressmaker would have to let her wedding gown out.
