The Oni in "La légende des c"ns" are an ethnic group of orcs who were once semi-nomadic, living off fishing, exploration, trade, and war. Now the onis have been subject to the Yamatai kingdom since the 16th century. And now live sedentary in the Yamatai community outbuildings and in their reserve which is located on the largest island of the Yamatai archipelago. The Oni people do not have citizenship but indigenous status. They can move freely but all jobs are forbidden to them in the territories of the Yamatai. All the trades except one... All able-bodied onis must from the age of 15 do compulsory military service for 10 years. Then they have two choices. Either they leave the army and return to their villages (but they become reservist), or they continue their military careers. The Oni troops are reputed to be the best shock and assault soldiers in non-human society. The training of a "basic" Oni soldier is comparable to a soldier of the Foreign Legion. They have modern equipment mixed with some traditional elements (e.g. the kanabo, the onis service melee weapon, and they all cover their upper body (but also the helmet and a little bit of the outfit) with red paint during the service or before a fight).
