This is a follow up to my Final Fantasy XIV fan design series for VTuber CorgiCam, this time featuring his AI Companion - Cork, a Corgi-Shark Hybrid. Much like Corgi, Cork had a design that was simple enough for me to dive into this particular concept right away, spinning a non-canon idea for what Cork would look like if he here in the world of Hydaelyn with Corgi. In fitting with the Summoner Job that I gave Corgi, I wanted to add in some aspects of the Carbuncle's appearance and function in XIV with my own twist on his look.
Most of the new details are more or less accessory/cosmetic, including the bands around his wrists/ankles, the elemental tiara (with gems representing Fire, Wind, and Earth), and a collar/band on his tail that has a medallion-like accessory bearing Corgi's emblem. When in battle, he channels Aether to give himself a mane of sorts that appears like a magical flame. The color would be of a basic green hue much like Cork's original skin color, which would change as he gains experience and channels the other elements. A fun little design idea I had with Cork's elemental powers would be the appearance of an icon that would match the element he channels (Flame for Fire; Mountain for Earth; Vortex for Wind), but that could be a completely optional feature.
And of course I had to get a couple of Cork's natural personality traits in the mix, like him nibbling on something while sitting (in this case, the Summoner Soul/Job Gem) and him getting peeved at being denied some tasty chicken nuggies X3 It was a fun but still challenging concept to pull off, something I've always run into certain characters that are very simple in design, but I hope I pulled it off well. One unintentional alteration to Cork's design would be that in fitting the tiara on his head, his hair looks more like a mohawk XP
The final look will likely be different, but I do like the foundations I set for the concept, and hope to move on to some more final artwork featuring Corgi and Cork in their hypothetical adventures in the lands of Hydaelyn~
