Funny thing that...
My recollection may be a little hazy, so details aren't perfect.
When the Stargate tabletop RPG was being developed back at the turn of the century, it was meant to be highly customizable. The residents of the Prancing Skiltaire household helped with pre-publishing testing and feedback, and so created a game based on the concept that some gate addresses led to worlds that were populated by humanoid animal people.
After a mishap where one of the Stargate teams was converted into similar animal folks by the Gao'uld when visiting one of these worlds, the gate addresses were considered 'Hostile' and not to be visited. If a video-bot or human team went through and saw a walking, talking, humanoid animal, they left immediately and the gate address was designated "AO" - Animal Occupied.
Meanwhile, the cursed team were stuck as literal furries in the regular human world so had to be taken care of as 'Wards of the Stargate program" so to speak. They got bored enough that they said, "Hey, those AO worlds could still be useful. We're already animalized. Why don't we just go there?"
So they became Stargate Team AO-1. The team was the super-specialist team that handled Animal Occupied worlds.

You could also be AO-2, or any other AO team if you'd like. They know the world that the Goa'uld use to convert humans into animal people, so there can be more than one team. Then also folks wouldn't wonder why you're missing from the official AO-1 art at the Prancing Skiltaire. ;)
