Cole got home after a quick shopping trip to a bizarre little shop he’d found in the rural parts of his city. It was full of bizarre and unsorted knick-knacks that were supposedly able to transform one’s whole body. Cole didn’t quite believe it, but it was still interesting to see what the shopkeeper had to offer.
Speaking of the shopkeeper, he weirded Cole out somewhat, mainly due to the fact that he wore an extremely well-made fursuit to work. It even blinked and its beak moved as the shopkeeper talked. It was weird.
Cole ended up walking out of the store with an old, ornate book that the shopkeeper described as; “A gateway to another world, just open it up at home and it’ll do the rest!”
It was titled; “The Luscious Land of Lythia.” Cole figured it was some kind of almanac for a fictional fantasy world. He didn’t buy the transformation aspect of it at all, but he was still curious to see what the book had to offer.
Once he was home, Cole pulled himself up a chair at his dining table, sat down, and opened the book up.
…It was blank.
Cole immediately began to get angry as he flipped through page after page of nothing but blank yellowed paper.
“What the fuck?! What a fucking rip-off!” Cole shouted, slamming the book. He immediately shot to his feet and snatched the book up, preparing to go right back to that shop and throw it in that fucking furry’s face for selling him such useless shit.
But then it began shaking.
Cole’s eyes widened and he ended up dropping the book from shock, allowing it to swing open. Right afterwards, its pages began to rapidly turn as the book itself floated up to Cole’s eye level while spinning vertically.
Cole froze with fear, and his whole body began to tremble, afraid he’d accidentally ticked off some ancient book-residing deity…
In the next moment, the book began to glow, and eventually produced a glittering portal that Cole found himself getting sucked into. He tried with all his might to resist, screaming in terror and grabbing onto his furniture, but nothing helped, and Cole was sucked through…His vision grew dim as he slowly fell unconscious…
When Cole awoke, he found himself standing in the middle of a foggy, grey void. He glanced around rapidly, fearful of what could be lurking here, and scared of what exactly this place could be.
Just then, the book from earlier thunked to the ground unceremoniously. Cole yelped childishly and jumped back. Once he did so, the book floated to his eye level and opened itself once again. Cole immediately got down on his knees (the book readjusted itself to his eye level again) and began to beg. “PLEASE DON’T HURT ME! I’M SO SORRY FOR INSULTING YOU, I DIDN’T KNOW YOU WERE SO POWERFUL!” He bawled.
Words written in black ink then began to appear on the book’s pages reading; “It’s alright, I don’t blame you.”
Cole’s eyes widened. “R-Really? You’re not mad?”
“Yep!” The book read.
“O-oh…okay…” Cole stood back up. “S-So what’s going on here?”
“You opened me, so you get to be transported to the world of Lythia!” The book read.
Cole wanted to doubt the book’s words, but so far it was pretty credible. After all, it had brought him to this weird void place…
“I just need to ask you a few questions first.” The book read.
“Oh…Um, okay! Shoot.” Cole responded, crossing his arms.
The book erased its words, then produced a question, asking; “What is your favorite animal?” Complete with a blank line below it for Cole’s answer. And just as Cole was about to ask how to answer, when an ink-quill floated down. Cole chuckled and took it in his hands, then looked back at the question.
He let out a quiet ‘hmmm’ as he thought of his answer, then wrote down ‘Dogs.’
Another question popped up below the first one.
“Any breed in particular?”
Cole thought again…remembering a cocker spaniel he had when he was a kid…God he loved that dog.
He wrote ‘Cocker Spaniel’ in the blank. After that, both questions and answers faded away and were replaced with a thumbs-up drawn in ink. The page then flipped and a new question popped up.
“What is your preferred class in an RPG setting?”
Cole answered with Mage, and the thumbs-up appeared once again. The page turned once again.
“Are you happy with your current gender?” It asked.
Cole tilted his head a bit, then answered yes. He couldn’t remember ever not feeling particularly uncomfortable in his skin before.
The thumbs-up appeared one more time as the page flipped.
“Alright, let’s get you acclimated!” The page read.
“Wait what do you m-“ Cole tried to ask, only for a sudden chill to strike him. It caused his whole body to tense up and he ended up dropping the quill. Right afterwards, his arms began to tremble furiously, and Cole slowly looked down, and was met with black fur beginning to grow out of his skin, enveloping his arms in a thick, fluffy layer.
Cole yelped like a dog, and upon realizing what he did, covered his face with his furry hands. The fur continued to spread across his skin, making its way to his shoulders, then his torso, then working its way downwards to his legs, and upwards to his head. Once his head was fully covered in the fur, and his human hair long gone, his face started pushing outwards, pushing away Cole’s hands as the snout fully formed, complete with a small, moist, black nose at the end.
“W-Woah..holy fucken shit…” Cole said in awe, running his hand through his comfy fur and his other hand along his snout. Cole had expected something like this to be traumatic and painful, like a werewolf transformation, but it was the complete opposite actually! It felt really comfortable and pleasant.
As Cole thought about that, his ears began to tingle, following that, they grew out to be long and floppy, and were soon coated with the same fur that was on the rest of Cole’s body. Though it was somewhat thicker than the rest of his body.
In ironic contrast to his thoughts from earlier, a jolt of pain then went through Cole’s spine, and he inadvertently let out a whine from it. The pain continued as his tailbone began to grow, growing out into a full, fluffy tail. It pressed uncomfortably against his pants, slowly beginning to poke a hole in the back of them until it was big enough for the tail to explode right out of it.
Cole let out a sigh of relief as the tail finished growing. That segment of change was more in line with his initial thoughts of how the transformation would go, though somehow it was still less painful than he anticipated.
Cole’s legs then began to ache, and his shoes began to feel extremely tight on his feet. Cole groaned as his knees buckled, allowing his legs to curve inwards below the knees, lifting him onto his toes as his shoes exploded off his new paws. Cole’s eyes widened as he wiggled his new toes, complete with dull claws and paw-padding on his soles.
Cole stood straight up and scratched the back of his head. He was about to say something, as he assumed the transformation to be done now, and in a way he was, but his clothing still wasn’t fit for where he was going, and his shirt and pants quickly tore themselves apart and disintegrated into nothing. Cole yelped in shock again as he blushed in embarrassment. Upon this, the book closed itself and ‘looked’ away.
Cole looked down at his fluffy body. Any sensitive bits were covered up by his fur, so he didn’t feel that exposed, but still, he was naked. He didn’t like being naked.
Thankfully for him, a cloth robe began to form on his body, starting from his ankles and wrists. It didn’t take long for the robe to be fully formed, and it rested comfortably on Cole’s body. It was light enough to be breatheable with all his fur, yet heavy enough to shield him against the elements. Cole smiled and felt the robe. His tail (which was sticking out of a neatly-cut hole from the back) began wagging happily.
Right after the robe was finished forming, a pointy wizard’s hat plopped itself onto Cole’s head, and a decorative cloth cuff formed on the base of his tail.
The Book reopened itself and started ‘speaking’ again.
“So, how do you like your new body?” It read.
“…I love it!” Cole cheered, his tail wagging harder.
“I’m glad you do!” The Book read. Right after the words appeared, the ink-quill floated upwards and spun around until it had turned into a wooden magic wand. Afterwards it landed comfortably into Cole’s hand.
“W-Woah…is this a…a real magic wand?” Cole asked, waving it through the air a bit.
“Yep! I’ll be placing you in one of the mercenary guilds in Lythia. The leader there will help you get adjusted to your new life and magic.”
“W-Wow! Th-Thank you so much! I am SO sorry I insulted you!” Cole chirped.
“No worries! If you ever have any questions, I’ll be here. I’ll also fill up with knowledge the more you learn about the world!” The book then set itself into Cole’s other hand as the world began to form around him…
Cole found himself standing in a small pasture with a barn in the center of it. Hanging outside of the door was a sign marked: “Pastoir Mercenary Guild.”
Cole took a deep breath, held his wand and book tightly, and stepped into the building, eager to start his new life.
