This is a scene I cut while working on my rewrite of Tales from Ækerin University. Since the narrative is bouncing between a bunch of characters, I'm trying to get each scene to drive into the next one while keeping everything mostly chronological. Based on that, this scene ended up being first since it deals with Ochil saying goodbye to his ex-boyfriend and ending with him hopping into the car to go to the airport. The scene after is about Felix in the airport waiting for his departure. The Felix scene really is a better introduction to the world since he's human and gives a more grounded entry point than some gay gryphon and flying snake cuddles (and almost something more). So, this ended up on the cutting room floor. Still, I thought it was cute enough to share and is canon to the whole story.

I like Ochil, so it's nice to get a story with him. And I hope he has enough fun at the magical university to avoid thinking too much about the snake, since it isn't useful for anything anyways.
"some gay gryphon and flying snake cuddles" sounds amazing actually, lol. But I understand the thing with Felix. I dislike humans myself, but I understand how he is good at being foreigner in the world like the reader is. Very typical for fantasy trope, I think.

Ochil is pretty fun. My biggest worry with him is actually if I can keep him relevant enough to the plot to justify him being one of the more major characters. Like Rhelki, Felix, Kira, and Kaj are all much more tightly connected to the goings on.
Most of the characters are outsiders in some way, but Felix definitely more than the others. I figure a human is good for grounding people at the start, but it isn't like he'll remain human for long.

Greatest American Hero?
Anyways, I'm glad you liked it. I have some notes of a little backstory for these two that I doubt is actually going to get a ton of use, but their breakup was at least a mutual decision. Hard to date someone literally on the other side of the world.

I've never actually seen it as the actual show was definitely before my time. I only know that song because a Youtuber I used to watch used it as his intro song. The chorus is so catchy and memorable, I sang the new few lines to myself after reading what you wrote.
The long distance relationship might have worked. I mean my sister did that for years before they finally got married. Still, for better or worse, this is the decision they made.

It was a silly show, and the main character had a special suit that let him fly, but he never learned how to land so he'd crash all the time which was a running joke on the show.
It's a very adult decision for two very young people! I'm sure one that they didn't make lightly. It was very heartwarming though, even if it was sad.
