The Maul Wha'hal is a species of toothed whales that prowls the northern oceans of my world. It is an aggressive and very territorial predator with the inquisitive faculties of a shark... which boils down to exploring new things in its environment via biting and (as the name implies) mauling its target.

Due to its aggressive nature, in-depth research regarding the Maul Wha'hal has been difficult. It is known to feed on fish, squid, marine mammals, and marine reptiles. It can reach sizes similar to an orca whale but is much more ferocious than its Earth counterpart.

Social structure, behavioral patterns, interactions with other intelligent species... all of those factors are very poorly understood. Some suggested the use of scrying magic to catch a glimpse into the private life of the Maul Wha'hal, but the exact logistics of such an undertaking still need to be worked out.
