Green Knight Arbutus
This past week I said goodbye to my dnd character of three years, Artie. The campaign sort of petered out and with my absurd scheduling this year, it was time to retire 🫡. Thankfully our DM was super kind about it and has allowed all of our characters to get their own special epilogues. Nice to finally play a campaign with concrete closure.
Arbutus (aka Artie) is a firbolg paladin serving the nature god Melora. He found a magic plant, which turned out to be the secret artifact to the demigod of the harvest, and managed to return it to her. His adventuring career involved a lot of troublesome encounters with the reincarnated demigods known as the First Souls, which seem intent on destroying one another, which Artie ended up relatively chill about because the First Souls were very much against the sort of natural balance and order of things. I could go on a tangent here about how the First Souls were very much my DMs self-inserts and the main characters of the campaign instead of our plucky party, but I digress!
Anyway, Artie was summoned back to the forest where he was born at the beckoning of his Grandad, the Green Knight and guardian of said forest. Turns out the First Soul of Death, an asshole necromancer, was intent on trying to take over the woods (again). Thankfully, we killed him but it will only be a matter of time before Navis returns, and it’s unlikely he learned his lesson….
The party then went to visit the Green Knight, who was dying as a result of his ties to the harvest demigod First Soul being severed. He chose Artie as his successor, and now this sweet little firbolg is bound to his forest as the new Green Knight!
I’m happy to see a character of mine actually get a (happy?) ending, or at least closure of sorts. His friends are off to go deal with the rest of the First Soul issues, and hopefully those weird reincarnating demigods stop mucking up the place, lol.
Part of his new role had his armour grow a bunch of foliage! Artie’s armour was initially a hand me down from his Grandad, so it was neat to see it come full circle. He also wields a First Soul artifact called the Earthshatter Blade, which can cause tremors and such!
Though I’ll miss him, I enjoyed my time with Artie and look forward to the next adventure!~
