You say its just a speed painting without any real reason. However the first thing that came to my mind was "wow this is a very powerful piece." I don't know why but it strikes a cord with me, that poor guy seem so sad and I feel so sorry for him :( I just want to hold him until he feels beter.
It looks very polished and brightly colored to me.
Though, it looks like the rain was a last-minute idea, since the fur of the coat is fluffy and upright.. whereas if the character was soaked like it looks as if it should be, it should be laying down, I'd think.
