Since moving to Oregon, I have largely done pieces based on whimsy, and I also entered a period where I didn't do any for, like, two weeks. I needed something to shake off the gears and so I decided I would start just drawing characters from the webcomic, one at a time, just so there's art of them.
I am not entirely happy with this piece. Something about the proportions. They don't fit her right. That's okay, though - every time I draw her will become more accurate.
I also got lazy and didn't finish her fur coloration, so she looks more like a hyena here. I will attempt to draw her again at some point. Still, it is not a bad attempt.
This is Keyah's adoptive mother, Fleet Admiral Tamina Bett of Raemou. She is 200 years old. By making her hair curly, I have finally managed to more accurately represent her as she is supposed to be. Whee! This old African Wild Dog phenotype took Keyah in when she joined the Space Force, becoming her mentor and adoptive mother-figure. Tamina scares Keyah a little bit because the depths of her rational, calculating mind are beyond Keyah's reach. Exactly how potent Tamina's Talent is is unknown, but as a veteran of the Barbary State Skirmishes, she is rumored to be capable of tactically forecasting while directly guiding the gunners of ships with her Talent, so she is clearly very powerful. She used to be a pilot, but has not moved an Armature in over 40 years.
The Admiral is not the normal commanding officer of the Allahzahrat, but as per tradition, a senior military officer visiting a battlecruiser takes the bridge conn, while the ship's Captain (Captain Davin, in this case, you'll see me draw him later) moves to the CIC. Therefore she functionally serves as the Allahzahrat's CO for a large chunk of the story. Davin is quite happy to have her onboard as, despite being a highly decorated Captain, she has far more combat experience than he does. He, and many of the rest of the crew, feel very grateful they have such a veteran officer on board to guide them.
I'll give you a hint: Elder Raemouians like Tamina are basically the equivalent of Eldar Farseers. You're looking at a powerful space witch. She's also the Big Good of the story, essentially - the Gandalf to Keyah's Frodo, I guess?
She is supposed to be taller and lankier. I'll fix that in the next attempt.
