They got the brain parasite (Boo) from a work accident at their job for a cartoonishly evil conglomerate called "The Mortem Company" (aka Mortem co) that deals with producing things from lab grown meat to barrels of glowing green toxic waste, since its no longer consider a "intact human being" it mainly does low rank viscera clean up detail type grunt work.
In the rare instances of the parasite being outside the host with the host still alive they have a mutual automatic instinct to kill each other. like a when a dog gives birth to a stillborn puppy and eats it to regain nutrients, Boo is afraid of Borg as it is the stillborn being eaten in this scenario.

Boo looks like a skinned version of Borg with the only physical differences being having nostrils at the top of the snout like a bird, sunken in eyes, shorter (5ftish) with a skinnier barrel chested build, and a cross shaped molting scar that runs down the torso and under the breast area.
