I do not know Outlast but from what I see it seems paradoxical in a way. I share this affinity by listening to Fernando Pessoa's "Book of Turmoil" or Blasphemous "Taranto a la Hermana Mia", which are both disturbing yet still relaxing. There are several psyhcological explainations but most important is that it feels good - at least I see it this way.
