The Keet Queens do not actually breed the young. Any male and female may produce offspring. However, they have a very simple, animalistic intelligence. Even after their pupation they remain savage and feral, unsuited for civilization.
The Queen creates a large chamber into a web-like nest of a mucous-like substance that it can excrete. When the young undergo their pupation nestled in the nest, the queen passes down a set of racial memories that instill within the changing bug a greater capacity for knowledge and learning, as well as as much raw information as can be managed within the course of the metamorphosis. Along with this, the new Keet is imprinted with an absolute loyalty to the queen.
Anyone who sleeps within the queen's nest can have the queen visit their dreams. This is the primary means of communication, as during the course of their massive growth the queen becomes extremely lethargic, seldom bothering to communicate directly; or truly do much of anything consciously beyond eating.
In the event of a queen's death, any other female may become a queen by consuming a special organ which exists within the queen. Queens will rarely arise even without the consumption of the organ if none are nearby.
The queens can also absorb the knowledge of those they consume, in an inversion of their ability to impart knowledge to those who sleep in their nests.
