A strong contender as a reason for Leo to gain weight, in my mind, is his and Chase’s rocky breakup before Chase left to college. In and of itself, it is a canonical catalyst that has great potential. Along the route of Leo eating his feelings away (in a nutshell), one could add that his current weight hasn’t been addressed by any immediate friends or family because of the (as they would perceive it to be) implication that his weight gain is related to his and Chase’s break up, making it too much of a sensitive topic to bring up to Leo. Especially when one considers his temper shortens when he gets emotional. This even has the tense-melancholy themes that fits it in with Echo’s tones.
I wanted to add that the wiki gives a much greater description of his personality, in which it states he shows signs of being a self-righteous narcissist, in that he rarely admits himself to be in the wrong until the last moment despite any evidence that contrasts with his assertions, has a habit of doing things without thinking, and has a long-standing habit of hearing only what he wants to hear and refusing to compromise his worldview or accept something that challenges his perspective of right or wrong. All of these traits, with his canonical poor diet of TV dinners, could give reason to him gaining a few hundred pounds.
