First time is special indeed. That form of communication is used quite often, but only for recent memories. Those gentlemen were testing the limits of how far one can reach for their memories to be registered. The mentioned memory was from several years ago, so it can reach quite far. It'd be more beautiful, if it was calibrated properly, though.
